What you need

Prepare your computer and workspace, and understand which tasks require a physical arm.

Checked 2026-10-16

Starting without a robot

  • A computer with a current browser and internet access.
  • Working WebGL for the 3D scene; hardware acceleration helps with complex scenes.
  • A Lab account to save progress and personal data.

Working with hardware

  • A robot matching the selected Lab model, a secured base and intact cables.
  • A data-capable USB cable and a board supported by the Lab driver; Bluetooth requires compatible wireless firmware.
  • The correct power supply for your particular kit. Check servo labels and kit instructions, rather than relying on the SO-ARM101 name.
  • Clear space throughout the arm’s travel and an accessible power disconnect. Keep hands and loose objects outside the movement area.

Browser choice

A current desktop Chrome or Edge is a practical starting point for hardware connections. USB needs Web Serial; Bluetooth needs Web Bluetooth. Operating-system or organization policies can block devices even when the API exists. See browser support.

Task Prepare
Assembly Parts, fasteners and tools specified for your kit revision.
Drawing and paths A securely mounted pen, paper and verified tool/base calibration.
Vision A virtual scene or accessible camera; even lighting for physical objects.
Camera calibration A printed target with a known, measured square size.

Start the first lesson in simulation. A 3D model on screen does not mean the physical arm is connected or safely configured.

Controls

Button or field Action and result
Sign in Have access to your email and sign into the account where you will save progress.
Not connected → Virtual Checks basic Lab operation without a physical arm. After the wizard, open the scene and change one joint.
Profile → robot model Before using hardware, create or select the correct profile; do not use someone else’s mechanical calibration without checking it.
Tools → required card Load dependencies in advance. For camera tasks, check camera permission and the live image.

Ready for a first test: you are signed in, the model is loaded, Virtual is selected and you understand the current tool’s stop control. A physical test also requires checked assembly, power and workspace.
